Frequently Asked Questions
Here are just a few questions that you may have about private tutoring. If you still have unanswered questions, don’t hesitate to contact us!
Why will your child enjoy small group sessions?
Although I’m able to help children feel at ease, 1:1 sessions can still carry a sense of pressure – it’s all on the one child to respond, and they often feel the need to get everything right the first time. Small group sessions offer a different dynamic. They encourage collaboration, idea-sharing and even a bit of friendly competition. It’s great to see bonds forming as we learn together and have fun in a relaxed, small group setting (with a maximum of four pupils).
How long are the sessions and what is the structure?
Each session lasts 60 minutes. As the children arrive at the workstation, a starter activity will already be set up for them to begin independently. We will then go through it together as a small group. Next, the main part of the session involves a fun, hands-on collaborative task where the children will explore and develop the key skill for that session. To consolidate their learning, they’ll complete a short independent activity. Finally, we’ll wrap up the session with a lighthearted quiz or a reflection on what they have learned. Oh, and there’s always time for a biscuit along the way!
What do you do differently to other tutors?
I believe that learning begins with confidence. After 12 years working in a classroom, I’ve seen time and time again that a lack of confidence is often the biggest barrier to progress. That’s why I focus on helping children believe in themselves and recognise that they can succeed in all subjects. Each subject has so many different elements – we just need to find the one that clicks with your child.
My sessions are personalised around your child’s interests. Instead of writing a story based on a book chosen by the curriculum, we might create a narrative inspired by something that truly excites them. In Maths, we can spend as much time as needed on multiplication and division, without rushing ahead to topics like money or shape just because the curriculum says so. I prioritise what your child needs most – without the pressure to meet rigid timelines.
